Inventor Story
Lesley Miller – Solution Seeker
If expensive wall hangings are the official proof of being an inventor, then Lesley Miller has made it! But for her, being a product developer is a mix of a God-given desire to create and the unstoppable curiosity of a seven-year-old who just can’t resist taking things apart.
With a background in home health occupational therapy, Lesley has always been passionate about helping people do things more easily—whether through her own inventions or by MacGyvering adaptive tools out of whatever’s lying around. As an ambassador for the United Inventors Association, she’s had the chance to assist fellow inventors through the wild world of product development, sharing what she’s learned through trial, and error, and way too much coffee.
Her latest invention, TwirlyT® (a women’s clothing accessory), earned her a grant from Clean Living Magazine and a spot as a featured woman founder at an exclusive two-day Oscars event in Bel Air, California. She is over the moon excited to be included in an incredible group of powerhouse women brand owners from around the world.
Being an inventor means wearing hats you’ve never tried on before—and spoiler alert: most of them don’t fit at first. But Lesley has learned a few things along the way:
Break your idea down to the simplest form possible. Don’t overthink. When it works, stop messing with it.
Get a 3D printer—it’ll save you time, and money, on your countless iterations.
Join inventor organizations that offer resources and guidance.
When doing market research, ask people what they’d change—not just what they think (especially if they love you.)
Inventing is like a rollercoaster—some days you feel barely tall enough to ride.
